22 inch suitcase, unicorn?

I borrowed an old 22 inch Swiss army suitcase for my last trip (from my mom), and it was the perfect size. This does not include the wheels! Unfortunately it was already beat to death, and can’t take another trip to Europe. The wheels were hanging on for dear life.

already have a 18 inch, 20 inch and 24.
I’m like Goldilocks, too small, or too big!

Has anyone seen a true 22 inch (not a 20 inch + wheels)? Going to France in May and hoping to find for trip.

thanks y’all

Check the store on this website. We have the Ravenna rolling case. We have been very happy with it. It has been sturdy and durable over many trips. It is an inch shy of your requirement at 21”. There is also another rolling case at the store that is about the same dimensions.

Thank you Mary, I got excited for a minute!
But it was 21 including the wheels.
If it says carry on size, it’s a clue to me it’s smaller than what I’m looking for.

I know most here are not checkers, but think I am going forward, it was just much easier for me.

I did a quick Google search and came up with this one. I can’t vouch for this one but it’s worth a look. See “Eddie Bauer Expedition 22 inch duffle”. I am sure a Google search will turn up others. I don’t carry on either and check my luggage. Good luck.

Isn’t your 24” a 22” box length, plus 2” of wheels?

I have one of the very early Away suitcases.

Their "bigger" carry on could work at just over 22" and the company's caveat that it may need to be checked ( since you want to anyway). It also expands somewhat and then must be checked. It's heavy- mine is almost 6 lbs and this one nearly 8 but has been a beast and still looks almost new.
Now there are so many similar styles to Away, and lighter and likely cheaper- but maybe worth taking a look. The weight shouldn't be an issue since you want to check the bag. Good luck!

I understand. I love my Delcey 22” + wheels! I believe they quit making that size as I have looked and looked. I almost hate to use it….fearing it will be ruined. I go to estate sales hoping to find another!? Good luck with that!

You do understand a 22" plus wheels will probably not be allowed on most European airlines as carry on. They include wheels in dimensions.

I think this will be difficult to find unless you buy a used bag; you are really looking for a 23 inch. My 14-year old Travelpro Maxlite was advertised as 22” when I originally bought it, but it was really 23” long; it used to be fine as a domestic carry on. I bought the newest 22” version and it is more than an inch shorter than the 14-year old bag. It is also less deep. I too check my bag and wish manufacturers offered the slightly larger bag. I will say that the new bag was more spacious than I expected and it worked fine for me (I have the 22” Travelpro Maxlite Rollaboard). It only expands partially.

What you might be more likely to find is a 22” expandable suitcase and use the expansion when you pack if you need more space.

Love my 22" Works Traveler by the company Victorinox. It is a two wheeler. It is the perfect small bag size for me. It is also expandable when needed. I always check my bag for plane travel.

Whatever you get, shop around for price. When I bought this one it was listed at Macy's for a whole lot more than I was able to get it for through Amazon. Check the Victorinox website as well.

Thanks guys

Based on everyone’s feedback, I do think it (old Swiss army bag) was a 23” all in, and they just don’t make that size anymore.

I’ll keep looking!

Maybe look at volume/capacity instead of being fixated on the 22" length? The advantage of the two RS rolling bags is that they are expandable, so extra room if you don't need to meet the strict carryon requirements of some airlines.

Most bags advertised as 21" are actually 22", so there's that...you really can't go entirely by what the seller tells you the dimensions are; "trust but verify" and all that.
