Planning a trip in late February - didn't get any place to "bite" on Rick Steve's discount. I figure that there is enough demand that they don't need to offer discount
Lodging costs are on the high side in Amsterdam, apparently even in Feb, although I haven't been there in Feb.
I was there in Sept and lodging costs were lower the farther you got from the center, but don't go too far away from the tram and bus routes that will get you into the historic attractions area.
ok - I am going recommend that if you want to spend the night at Schipohl - go for it.
There can be other discounts available (through your credit card or other sources)
If not, just figure it into your budget.
(original post): Re immediately above post, it's not apparent to me, based on the OP's question, why you're suggesting she sleep at Schiphol? Am I missing something?
Edit: Ok, now I understand after seeing joe32F's post below.
Kent this may clarify things for you

Yes, in Amsterdam, demand is high and supply is low, year-round. Then, it gets even worse during tulip season, King's Day, etc. So, you have to be prepared to either spend more, or get less, then you had hoped, when looking at Amsterdam hotels.
