Early flight = staying at airport, or not?

When I leave Amsterdam, my flight is early, about 9 am. I'm thinking the best plan is to spend my last night at Schipol airport in a room there.
What has your experience been staying in the rooms at the Schipol airport? This is the end of my journey and I will be out late the night before attending a concert.

I have not stayed at the airport area, and see no need to if your last night will be Amsterdam (not a farther away town). Why mess with moving? Let's say check out of your Amsterdam city hotel is at 12. They will hold your luggage, but will you go to the airport to check in before your concert, then back to the city, then back to airport after the concert? Or return to the "old" hotel to get your bag, then head to the airport very late (after your concert)? Does not make sense to me. Stay in your same hotel, and aim to get to the airport before 7AM. That would mean leaving the main train station by or before 6:30, which is early but manageable. If you stayed at the airport hotel you'd save MAYBE 30 minutes of train time, probably less because the shuttle from the hotel to the airport still takes time.

Mira - thanks for your reply. I would actually stay in a room AT the Schipol airport, so the next morning I would get up, and go to the terminal, I would already be at the airport. As you said the check in would be late. I would leave baggage at old hotel, get a taxi to airport or pick up luggage, go to Centraal, then train to airport. Although, it would be late, perhaps less stress as I would already be at airport next morning.

Last year, we took our luggage down to Schipohl the day before our departure. The hotel kept it for us until we checked in later the next day. It is a quick trip and an easy to do. I think the whole process took only one hour out of out time that morning.
We stayed the Sheraton and just walked over to toe airport the next morning; about a five minute walk to security. It worked well for us.
There are also a couple of options inside Schipohl to consider: Yotelair and the Mercure.
Don't know much about these accommodations.
Our flight left at 9am and we were at the airport by 6am.
It does make for a short night, but security is time consuming, although the lines move well.
You might arrive by 6:30 but would not push it much more depending where your departure gate is located.
Good luck; I know you will find the right place to stay.

Is your flight a long haul destination or short haul? If the latter, 3 hours is not needed.

better go with those 3 hours then.

Trains from Amsterdam Centraal to the airport are reliable, even at an early hour.

If your concert is in Amsterdam then stay in amsterdam and take a taxi ordered night before.
In Sept we pd 35 euros for an early taxi rude to airport from central amsterdam.

We stayed at the Schipol Hilton last summer the night before our flight and it worked out fine for us. We dropped our luggage in the morning and then went back into the city. It saved us stress the next morning and we slept better. The dinner options at the airport were kind of meager, but you’ll be in town for the concert.

In the case of Amsterdam you can stay in the downtown. There is a quick connection to the airport by train. I usually fly from Prague and if it is a very early flight I usually stay in Marriott less than five minutes walk to the check in. The other option would be taxi because public transport is very restricted in very early hours in Prague. Amsterdam is obviously different.

Haven't done it in Amsterdam, but when we have early morning flights out of Paris we like to stay at the Ibis IN the airport and stroll to the gate without worrying about train delays or taxi traffic. By the last night of the trip, a Big Mac with fries sounds pretty good.

yes, I'm thinking it will be the last night of a 2 week trip, so best to reduce stress even though, or maybe because it will be a long day and don't want to add stress

My thought is that you will probably be wired for awhile after leaving the concert and won't get sleepy immediately, so there may be some value in using that time to get to the airport if it will allow you to sleep a bit later the next morning.

I would not want to spend my last day in Amsterdam moving from one hotel to another as that would use too much time for my liking. So perhaps take a taxi from your hotel to the airport.

What we actually do? That's different! LOL We stay at a property near the airport in Hoofddorp; we get inexpensive deals or free nights at the Hampton by Hilton (Hilton Honors) plus breakfast is included and just take the train into Amsterdam Centraal or wherever we're going in the Netherlands that day and take the train back each night. We are on public transport everyday anyway so this is easy and in fact we enjoy the convenience of the NS trains. There is an airport shuttle which makes catching the 9:30 flight to JFK much easier to handle as we can sleep a little bit longer than we would if we stayed in Amsterdam.
