Does anyone have recent experience going through the new European Entry System at the Amsterdam airport? We are flying from Portland, Oregon to Rome, Italy through Amsterdam. We all have a global pass but are still concerned how long it will take to get through the process.
I went through last Saturday. It went pretty smooth. The time it takes depends on how many other flights arrive at the same time as yours.
If you mean that you have Global Entry and not Global Pass that is only of use for avoiding lines when returning to the USA.
How long of a layover do you have?
I did a Google search, here's a recent update - https://community.ricksteves.com/travel-forum/netherlands/ams-schiphol-recent-airport-experience.
AI overview - Travelers on the Rick Steves Travel Forum report highly variable experiences with the EU Entry/Exit System (EES) at Amsterdam Schiphol (AMS). While some breeze through the biometrics registration in 10-15 minutes, others experience bottlenecks taking up to 90 minutes during peak arrival times.
Unfortunately, Global Entry is only for entering the US, it has nothing to do with EES, a new Schengen system. Good luck!
It has been a month since I went through, but for transit passengers, the experience is pretty smooth. I think it helps in that once you get off the plane, you are not herded enmasse to immigration, you are let out into the international terminal, and people amble toward immigration, or get a cup of coffee, so the crowds even out a bit, follow the in-transit signs.
Some thoughts...Note that it is every person for themselves, it used to be you approached immigration as a family group, no more, each person (unless you have small children) uses the kiosk by themselves, each goes either to the e-gate or manual booth, for a couple, both may not go the same place.
Pay attention at the end of using the kiosk, it will direct you to line 1 or line 2, then it disappears, no going back and asking which one. I suppose if you miss it, default on going to the manual booth.
