Wrong passport birthplace but need visa

I am traveling to Italy in 2 months to study abroad. I am going to the Italian consulate to apply for a visa tomorrow, but I just realized my passport has the wrong place of birth. I has the correct country, but the wrong state. What am i supposed to do about my visa? Am i going to be rejected? I only have 2 months and I know it takes a long time to process a new passport and visa. I dont know what to do, please help!

Are you from the United States? Your question sounds like maybe not.

I think the OP is leaving in 2 months, she did not say for how long she would be in Italy, but I suspect is for longer than 90 days.

Any reason the wrong state is in your passport? After all, you gave them the information to put in it. Tomorrow is too late to do anything about it now. I don't think the Italians will care what state you were born in.

I am going to study abroad so yes it is longer than 90 days. There must have been a printing error when I received my passport, but I did not realize it until now. I am worried that I will not be accepted for a visa because the passport has a different birthplace than my visa application form. I also know it may take a while to get a new passport, even if I expedite it and then it may take a while to get the visa after I receive the new passport. I need it by the second week of January.

You might get a renewal back faster than you think. See this recent discussion about that.

This is the link to the State Department about renewals. I did my renewal by mail last Christmas season and my results were the same as described in the forum discussion, without paying for having it expedited.

This link has a way to contact someone about your particular situation.

At this point, I'd say bring your birth certificate along, and if it comes up, you'll have proof and you can explain it as a clerical error. If they tell you to get it corrected, then you will know how to proceed. You might have to pay for expedited passport service, but that is the way it goes.

I would contact (phone) the passport office ASAP. A passport with a mistake on it is technically invalid.

I once received a renewed (British) passport with a mistake. As it was the passport office's / embassy's fault they replaced it for free with the express service. Hopefully as it is their mistake your passport office will do the same.

Passport should be replaced free of charge if they have made a mistake, let the consulate know this also.

I deleted my inappropriate response that was based on my misreading of the post. Sorry for that, will read more closely in future.
