Why is Tivoli never mentioned?

I have Rick's book on Italy and couldn't believe there was nothing on it anywhere. It sounds like a good side trip from
Rome, I am not sure how to get there and if it's worth it.

Rick has never claimed to cover every worn-out or every secret tourist destination. I always buy at least two books, the second often being Lonely Planet. If you use the search box above (and if it works well, which it doesn't very often) there have been many discussions of Villa D'Este and Hadrian's Villa here, as well as (gasp!) other travel newsboards. I posted on Hadrian's Villa myself:

People regularly post here about RonInRome, which is also very helpful on this town.

Marfa, buy or borrow a different book on Rome. Rick is an expert and we love him but there are other experts as well.

Tivoli is s lovely little city, much more than the Villa d'Este (right in the middle of town) and Hadrian's Villa.

I spent three days there in July, it's also a great daytrip from Roma. I took the train from Roma Tiburtina.

Another good choice is Castel Gandolfo.
