Visiting Rome

Hello,
We’re going to buy 36 hr Roma Pass & I just wanted to know how it works at the Coliseum. If it’s free entry into the Coliseum, Forum & Palantine Hill… why do we need to have a ticket reserved 30 days in advance of our visit? The Coliseum is covered in the Roma Pass so why would we need to buy another ticket if we’re not interested in a tour?

Thanks!

A lot of the super-busy/crowded sights in Europe now try to manage access by requiring timed entry tickets. Having a sightseeing pass doesn't eliminate the need for a timed reservation at quite a few places.

I don't think they're covered by the Roma Pass, but you'd also need a time-specific ticket for the Vatican Museums and the Borghese Gallery. CORRECTION: The Borghese Gallery is covered by the Roma Pass. You can make it one of your two free entries, or you can visit it later and get a discount on the entry fee. You will need to get a timed entry reservation [not actually a ticket] well ahead of time, though. The Borghese Gallery sells out early (though not typically as early as the Colosseum and the Vatican Museums).
