Can anyone recommend a water taxi service or individual that will take four adults on a Grande Canal cruise and surrounding waterways around dusk this May?

We were four and the city water taxi (consorzio motoscafi Venezia) drove us around for about an hour or so - cost was around $140 and worthwhile.
Dusk is a great idea!
You will want to call / email and pay in advance to reserve and arrange a pick up location (ours was the parking garage at Tronchetto).

Mary there are water taxis in addition to gondolas that can take you on the canals. I preferred the boat to see more architecture from the water.
I think the OP was asking about a water taxi service.
