Venice to Florence - safe to book train b/w 6-9 July?

Hi all,

Please excuse if already answered, but I couldn't find info on this anywhere. I am aware of construction work near Florence b/w 6-9 Jul 2026, but I can see trains are available to book with Trenitalia between these dates from Venice SL to Florence SMN. Just want to know whether these are safe to book, or whether its likely they will be cancelled? Historically, is it safe to book them, or is Trenitalia well known for selling tickets for days when they already know operations will be cancelled?

I have also read on this forum that replacement buses may sometimes be involved, but would that not be confirmed on the site at time of purchase if the disruption is already known by Trenitalia?

Thanks

You are serious, aren't you? I mean, you are really asking if they could sell tickets when there are still chances of trains not running? And then being forced to reimburse around 200,000 tickets to 200,000 angry taxpayers who can all write to local press?

Instead of simply leaving the "temporarily not available" warning up on the Trenitalia site?

If I could, now I'd paste the "Just why?" meme here.

Anyway, if you put Firenze SM Novella as arrival station the site won't show you the substitute buses because the works will take place past Firenze SM Novella station. You must enter Rome or Naples to see the substitute buses: https://i.postimg.cc/jqwRnctV/Immagine-2026-05-24-174331.jpg

Marco and Christine, thanks for your answers. They help put my mind at ease. I suppose the thing I was concerned about was that despite showing Firenze SMN, the train may be terminating at one of the other Firenze stations, and that fact was just not uploaded/calibrated into the booking system. But it appears as if the train does continue to SMN, so I hope that is the case. And I suppose even if not, it will at least make it into one of the Florence stations.

Many thanks!

If you purchase a journey that ends at SM Novella-that is where it ends
Nothing to be concerned about
