Venice entry fee

I’ve just discovered that not only is an entry fee applicable in 2026 for day-trippers to Venice (pay in advance and get a QR code), but visitors staying overnight in Venice need to get an “exemption” QR code. If you enter without a QR code you could be fined up to 300 euros! Here’s the official website: https://cda.veneziaunica.it/en

Roger, the requirement for overnight visitors to register for an exemption, if staying during days/hours marked in red on the calendar, isn't new. That's been in force for a couple of years.

Old thread from 2024 (just a reference for how long it's been in force; not for 2026 instructions):

This actually began in 2024, so it's not new; but this serves as a reminder to new visitors. It is only in effect from April through July on specific days.

Has anyone here been stopped and asked to show this QR code or a voucher?

Regarding the last question, you may be asked to show the code. Most QR code checks happen near the train station, but random checks within the city can occur as well.

I registered for the exemption code. It allowed me to add my travel companion, we are sharing a room. Hopefully this is acceptable? We are not related. Anyone have any insight on this?
Do we also need to get an entry fee in addition to this?

You should not have to pay the entry fee if you're staying in a hotel in Venice. There is a city tax on lodgings there, which your hotel will collect from you (a few euros per night per person). You're not expected to double-pay.

Is there a way to edit your entry for the Venice Tourist Tax exemption? We accidentally entered my birth date incorrectly (American style month-day-year instead of European style day-month-year). It was a silly mistake, I know, we were tired and distracted. Can we just go create a new exemption with the proper information? or is there a way to edit the incorrect one? I'm presuming that because Italians are serious about bureaucracy and government that using the exemption with the wrong birth date, which doesn't match my passport, would be a big deal when entering the city.

@noseinbooks:
In the email that you received with the link to your Venice entry exemption, there was also a link to “cancel” your exemption. I think you could cancel your existing exemption, and then create a new one with the correct information.
