From Bari we would like to visit Matera, Polignano de Mare, Ostuni and also head north of Bari to Rotundo area/Padre Pio church and sites. We are not sure of the transportation we will need to get there but could do a day trip. We've spent a week in Lecce several years ago which was wonderful. We also visited Aerobello, Gallipoli, Otranto, Locorotondo, and Martina Franca.
Recommendations for a base in Bari or one of the other towns would be welcomed.
Also recommendations for hotels in Matera & a local tour there would really be appreciated.
We are not renting a car.

Hi, I was at those cities last May. Here’s my trip report. I also just use public transportation. I am planning to go back to that area for the third time this May, also - a very special area!
The B&B in Polignano a Mare - specifically that room I describe has an amazing balcony, if you’re able to reserve it.
