Travelling in southern Italy

I will be travelling from Rome to Monte Cassino then on to Sorrento in April 23. Any recommendations on how to achieve this. I want to spend less than a day in Monte Cassino and will be schlepping a small piece of luggage.

Please send advice on making this happen.

Thanks for the help. I plan to take the train from Rome to Monte Casino. Any advice on a good tour to take of Abbey and battlefield or would a self guided be as good. Also, how far is it from town to sites. The in advance.

I've only been past Monte Cassino but it appears that there is a bus from the Cassino train station to the abbey, but it only runs 3 times a day so scheduling might be an issue.

It is a windy, 15-20 minute drive up the hill. A taxi is probably an option - given that the abbey is the big site - but I don't see any concrete information.

There is a page to arrange tours for Abbey on the website but it really doesn't seem like it's being maintained. I would email them with questions.

There also appear to be local tour guides that lead tours of additional battlefield sites etc if you want to maximize your visit.

Good luck, hopefully some who has been recently will be able to supply current experience,
