Traveling the Amalfi Coast and Sorrento in November

Due to constraints at work our trip will now take us into the first 10 days of November. I am not concerned about Rome at that time but I am worried about the other areas. Is Siena, Sorrento, Naples and the Amalfi Coast shut down at this time or is there still plenty to do and most things still open? Thanks

Others can comment on the smaller towns but we were in Naples in late November a few years ago and everything was open. We loved it and hope to return. The weather was sunny and a comfortable temperature.

Siena and Naples are cities
Of course they don’t shut down!
Thousands of people live there

Actually > 50,00 live in Siena
About 3 million in Naples

These places are not just there for tourists

The last response was a little harsh. The smaller towns on the Amalfi coast might in fact shut down somewhat and ferries I believe stop running in October but Naples should be good with pleasant weather and a great less tourists so that should be very nice for your visit. Hopefully a couple of our contributors who have more experience can help as we were only there in July and again in September. Good luck.

Thank you, I think that is most what I was concerned about the smaller towns and the ferries. I think we will just have to go for it and hope we can get a good idea of the Amalfi Coast.

We travelled the Amilfi Coast in Jan 2023, so should be a similar experieince.

No Ferries were running, so we left from Salerno on the Bus.

Catching the bus was easy, and we purchased an all day ticket. We stopped at Amalfi and at Positano.

Arriving at Positano, very little was open. It was easy to get a bite, however about 90% of places were shut. We still loved it. Dipped our toes in the water, whilst the locals looked at us thinking WTF..

We left on the 8am bus from Salerno, so things in the morning along the coast were very quiet. Amalfi on the way through was dead, however on the return in the afternoon, it was much more lively, and we enjoyed Amalfi.

When planning , I was going to base myself in Sorrento for 4 nights. In the end because of the season, we stayed in Salerno, which is a city, however, it came with a number of benefits, which included being on the fast train network, plenty of restaurants at good prices and great quality. Easy to get to Pompeii and Paestum.

Have fun. In my view, its a wonderful part of the country, no matter the time of year.

I was in Sorrento is mid-Nov a few years ago and the weather was beautiful (70s). The bus to Positano was not overly crowded but if you are prone to motion sickness-beware. Shops etc in Sorrento were mostly all open but not so in Positano. I can't comment on the ferry. Guess it also depends on what you want to do, esp in Sorrento and AC?

I stayed in Salerno for 5 nights in February a few years back. I went to Amalfi, Maiori, Minori (absolutely must stop at Sal de Riso for great gelati and pastries to die for), and Vietri sur Mare (beautiful pottery). Many of the tourist shops were closed as well as a lot of restaurants, except in Salerno where everything was open, after all it is a big city. It is also underrated. It has a large sandy beach, a beautiful seaside promenade, very good restaurants and a historic center well worth a full day's exploration. You can also visit 3 majestic Greek temples at Paestum. I also spent a few nights in Naples on that trip. There's plenty to see and do there as well.

The views along the AC are spectacular. I rented a car (see my report on that here). I noted that the buses were far from full. It may well be that early November is more popular (and crowded) than mid-February, so it could be that most of the restaurants and shops in the AC villages are still open. On another trip I spent 5 nights in Sorrento and almost everything was open.
