Transportation from Luca to Florence suggestions?

Hi fellow travelers! We leave tomorrow for the new Tuscany tour which ends in Lucca. Our return flight is out of Florence and I wonder if anyone has a suggestion for travel from Lucca to Florence that worked for them. I am sure we will figure it out, but thought I’d ask.

We have been to Florence before, but I wonder also if anyone has a favorite spot for a casual meal of wine/cheese board. Awe love to try new places and have a couple of days before the group meets to wander.
Thanks and stay safe and happy our there!

I would just take the train from Lucca to Firenze S.M.N. Most trains are regional trains that do not require advance reservation.

If you are heading straight from Lucca to Florence airport for a flight, there is a tram from Firenze SMN to the airport, but I would not be very comfortable doing that just before an overseas flight. Not sure if this is your intention, since you also mention a meal in Florence?

The train takes 1hr 20m and is 7.5 euros for economy class and then once at SM Novella train station get the tram for 1.5 euros which takes one half hour to the airport. Easy but give yourself time. The train timetable is online and tram 2 runs regularly. Your tour guide can give you this information as well. Have a great trip

I cannot help you about travel, but the last time we were in Florence, we discovered an Eatly (spelling) upstairs at the market. It was new at the time, but we enjoyed a glass of wine and some food before our train back to our accommodation. Lots of options and if I remember correctly it was near the train station.

It may not be convenient if you have luggage.

If you fly out of Florence, make sure you spend the night before your flight in Florence. Don't go to Florence the morning of your flight. No need to stay in a hotel near the Florence airport however. The airport is just 15-20 min from the city center by taxi.

Train or bus from Lucca will work. But I would choose the train because now the bus leaves you at the Florence Stazione Leopolda, near the Opera House, so not as central as the Santa Maria Novella train station.

And, Roberto, sometimes I have even questioned myself on that advice, having been left "stranded" in Florence and other Italian airports, due to foggy autumn mornings, thereby missing my NA connector out of Frankfurt or Munich.

Unfortunately the NIMBYs, the enviromenterrorists, and some local shortsighted politicians, don't want the new longer runway to be built and the new airport construction project has been stuck in the courts for 2 years. So the city of Florence, one of the top tourist destinations in the world, is stuck with a ridiculous general aviation airfield (5,000ft long) built by Mussolini (that they have the nerve to call airport) that gets closed anytime there is the slightest wind, or the most insignificant of fogs.
