Lucca to Florence Airport at the end of 12 days of Tuscany

It seems there is a bus from Lucca to the Florence airport. My trip ends on Friday morning so that means I have to book afternoon flights but most of the flights leaving for SFO are morning flights. Any suggestions besides taxi?

Spend night before flight in Florence?

Train is cheap and easy to Florence
Then taxi (22 euros) or tram to airport

I’d guess a taxi or private driver for that distance (Lucca to FLR) will be at least 200 euros

Have you checked flights from Pisa? Probably all early am as well since it’s not a nonstop, (you will change somewhere in Europe) but it’s easier and closer to get to Pisa from Lucca- a taxi to Pisa airport is about 70 euros and less than an hour

Have you booked your flight home from Florence? If not, consider flying home from Pisa.
We were in Lucca in 2017 and flew home from Pisa, to Munich, to SFO with Lufthansa. Our flight in Pisa left at 1:00 pm. We took the bus from Lucca to Pisa.

Pisa airport would be closer.
However there are no non stop flights from either Florence or Pisa to the US, including SFO, therefore there will be a layover in some European gateway first. As a result, your flight from either Pisa or Florence to that European gateway will certainly leave super early in the morning in order to catch the eventual flight from the gateway to the US. If you find a flight from Pisa (for example via Munich with Air Dolomiti, which is part of the Lufthansa group) you could potentially stay the night before in Lucca and take a taxi (or limo service) to Pisa airport the morning of departure. If you fly out of Florence, then I recommend spending the night in a Florence hotel. The trip from Lucca on a a I is long (over one hour) and expensive, and I wouldn’t chance it on an early morning flight. Buses or trains from Lucca would not get you to Florence on time for an early flight.

Option #3. If you are going to be traveling to another airport by ground transportation and then spending the night prior to flying out, you can extend your departure airport range a bit. Would you get cheaper or more direct flights leaving from Milan or Rome?
