Timeline advice Rome

We are arriving in Rome via airplane on Sept. 13, 2024. Our flight arrives at 9:00 am. We plan to get a locker to store our luggage and then meet up with a scheduled tour of the Colosseum at 12:00. The tour is about 3 hours. After the tour we plan to take the train to Florence. We did not purchase the train tickets to Florence as we expect to be able to do that easily after the tour.
Will we be able to make it to the Colosseum by 12:00? Should we store our luggage at the airport or train station?
Will we have any trouble getting the high speed train tickets on the day of travel?

Hi -
Some of your questions were answered in your previous post: https://community.ricksteves.com/travel-forum/italy/which-train-in-rome

As noted in that thread:
You are going to need to store your bags at Termini as that's your station of departure for Florence. You won't be returning to the airport to catch a train onward. Buying tickets shouldn't be an issue.

Will be able to make your tour? Yes but only if everything goes smoothly. A delayed flight; long wait on the tarmac; long wait for bags (if you checked them); long line for immigration (if you're coming from outside the EU); long line at the bag-check office....

Maybe--- BUT, there are so many variables it is impossible to 'answer' that question.

Definitely at Termini ( train station)

Will we have any trouble getting the high speed train tickets on the day of travel?

Should not be a problem; appears there are 6 trains per hour, from Rome Termini to Florence.

We went the opposite way, Florence to Rome, and I booked tickets 72 hours in advance no problem. We also got 4 seat reservations together. It shouldn’t be an issue, especially if you don’t mind sitting separately for the ride. I would think your timeline is reasonable, as long as there are no delays. The taxi wait at Termini was about 15 minutes.
