Soccer game in Milan

Going to Italy for a trip in January over the weekend of January 26th, 2019. There is a soccer game there supposedly with Milan hosting Napoli. I'm a big Italian soccer fan. Would it be worth it to go with just my wife and I? Would it be dangerous? Any other input is welcome. Thanks!

WHICH to Milan team? I'm AC Milan guy myself, and went to a game in December 2014 vs Napoli. Not dangerous at all if you stay out of the home team end. They set off railroad flares when the home team scores its first goal. And you might be expected to know all the team chants and follow the directions of the designated cheer leaders.

The Metro goes all the way to San Siro stadium now, so its easy to get to. Have a "Salemi" sandwich at one of the stands outside the stadium before or after the game. Its an Italian sausage on a bun, kind of like having a bratwurst if you go to Lambeau Field. I was warned not to wear any team apparel, even the home team lest we happen onto any Napoli supporters.

Note. Not sure if "salemi" is the correct term for the sausage, it just as good as I can remember.

You must have your passport with you as they check that it matches the name on the ticket. We had no problem getting tickets at the stadium, although it was a Sunday night game. Yes, they have Sunday night football in Italy.

Edit - I see January 26 is AC Milan. Learn the words to the song.

We tried on-line before the game, but my Italian friend had no luck, site seemed too buggy. So we just got on the Metro and went to the stadium. There were ticket booths outside the stadium and we had no troubles buying tickets, but like I say, you must have your passport as they check it when you buy the ticket and again when you enter the stadium. San Siro holds about 80,000, and it was only about half full on that date. Like I say, it was a Sunday night in December.

Here is the website to buy tickets, but it looks like they only sell tickets for the next match on the schedule. They are playing Juventis on Nov 11 and tickets are available.

On-line ticket purchases can be a problem in Italy, as most places use 3-D security for on-line purchases. You might be able to buy them at a ticket agency in Italy when you arrive.

Sam, I think you're referring to salamella! Like a flattened sausage type sandwich! ;)
And op, try online on the official inter or Milan webpage, otherwise you might be lucky and find tickets at the stadium.

Sorry Sam, no pun intended, but why do you call Milan "AC Milan"? I'm not saying it's wrong, it's quite formal. Like saying Juventus FC, Napoli AS or AC Torino anytime.

I wonder why you and many other english speaking supporters picked that team and only that team to be called this way. Is it because they have an English name so you can distinguish between the city and the team?

It would be like saying "I own a phone made by Apple Ltd". This way nobody can think you picked your phone from a tree, but it's a little odd. I'm Just curious.

Sorry, I should have said Rossonero, but then on this side of the pond, we tend to err on the side of formality in these matters. Notice it is "Soccer", not "Football" or "Calcio" over here. I support the Rossoneri, because I went to their game, bought their scarf. I have gone over to the dark side, or at least the red and black side. Need to distinguish them from that other team, Inter Milan.

OMG! You can't do that, Sam! You can never call Inter, Inter Milan! It's either Inter or Internazionale! Even enemies have their rights.

Oh dear, in the U.K. We frequently call them AC Milan and Inter Milan. Thank you for setting us straight!

Bringing this back to life for a bit. Hopefully someone will respond. I've been looking at the AC Milan ticket site and I can't buy them online unless I have a Cuore Rossonero card. Is there no other way? Do we really have to wait until we get there?

If I go here and click on the Milan vs Napoli game for January 26, I'm redirected to a page where I have to insert my Cuore Rossonero card number. https://www.acmilan.com/en/landing-tickets

Ideas?
