Rome vs. Verona & Venice during Holiday Week

We're going to be in Italy during a holiday week, April 25-May 1st. this will be the last week of our 2.5 week stay in Italy and we're trying to decide whether we should start or end in Rome (I'd prefer to start there).

Would Rome be better during that holiday week vs. 3 days in Verona & 3 in Venice? In other words, which would feel less of the impact for a holiday week?

Thanks for input.

Thanks. Here's our proposed itinerary:

4/13 Venice for 3 nights, (flying from Seattle to Venice),
4/16 Verona for 3 nights, (with one day trip to Padua)
4/19 Florence for 6 nights (with two separate day trips to Volterra (maybe) and Lucca),
4/25 Rome for 5 nights (flying out of Rome to Seattle)

Tracy,

I'm confused... given your proposed itinerary above, are you trying to figure out if you should reverse your flights?

Fly into Rome> travel north > fly out of Venice???

IMO, I think your proposed itinerary is ideal...however,
here is Roberto's reply to a similar post:

"Usually people are advised to return home from Rome because flights back to North America depart in the morning and Rome airport is close to the city center (30 min by taxi). Both Venice and Milan airport are a distance from the center and that results on having to get up extremely early in the morning or find a hotel at the airport on the last night before the day of departure. If not for that, it doesn't make any difference to go from North to South or viceversa"

Regarding the national holiday, it is celebrated all over Italy, not just in Rome!

Hope this helps!

Yes, that was my question - wondering if I should reverse the order and start in Rome, end in Venice - if it even matters in relation to the holiday week (April 25-May 1st). Since it's an Italian holiday week I wouldn't think many Italians would go to the tourist spots in Rome, but I could be wrong! That's what I was wondering.

Thanks,
T.
