Rome in late April and early May - Holidays

According to a posting in another topic, Liberation Day (April 25) and Labor Day (May 1) are huge holidays in Rome. I'll be traveling from Rome to Assisi on Sunday, April 26. Any particular tips I should keep in mind for traveling that day? (I try to avoid train travel in Italy on Sundays, but I start a language class the following day in Assisi, hence the need to travel that Sunday.)

Thanks.

Not just in Rome. April 25 is a National Holiday throughout Italy ( 25 April 1945 - anniversary of the Liberation from the Nazi occupation and end of WW2 in Italy).
May 1 is Labor Day everywhere in Europe.

Trains will operate as usual (on a Sunday schedule). For schedules consult www.trenitalia.com (use next Sunday's schedule to see the timetable, it won't change much in 2015).

I presume you will have accommodations booked ahead of time, that holiday week will be busy at any tourist location, including Assisi.

Sunday/holiday train schedules are not particularly bad, unlike Sunday bus schedules, or lack thereof.

Thanks. The reason I try to avoid Sunday train travel is that it seems train strikes happen most often on Sundays (starting the Saturday evening before, then going for 24 hours). Yes, I do have lodging lined up. (I'll also be in Assisi for Calendimaggio, which I'm really looking forward to.)

Striking on weekends is smart for transport workers. Maximize inconvenience for others while getting the weekend off for yourself.

However I wouldn't worry about that. It's not that strikes happen that often.
