Has anyone recently traveled from Tributina to Sorrento by bus. Are there still two buses departing Rome at 2 and 3 p.m.?
Can you purchase train tickets immediately before departure?
I don't know about the bus schedule. I thought it was morning and afternoon. You can purchase train tickets immediately before departure. It is extremely rare for a train to be sold out.
Do you mean Rome Tiburtina? I'm not familiar with the buses. To get to Sorrento by train you need to take the local Circumvesuviana train from Naples.
Sorry, I've only done it by train (Trenitalia to Naples/Circumvesuviana to Sorrento) but I just looked briefly at the Marrozi bus schedule and there appears to only be one or two runs a day depending on specific day/season: Roma - Sorrento at 15:00, and Roma -Sorrento-Amalfi at 7:00.

This thread on the same subject is a little dated but the info stating that tickets can be purchased at the station is probably still valid. I don't know why it wouldn't be, anyway.
You can buy bus tickets at Tiburtina station but the last staffer who did that (a veteran Italy guide) reported that it was crowded, chaotic, and poorly signed in the station, partly due to construction, and she would not want to leave it to the last minute.
We took the bus from Sorrento to Tributina. it does stop A LOT!
We were forced to use the bus because they'd closed the rail line due to construction where they found a bomb from WWII.
It wasn't bad, but I would have preferred the train, even though I'm sure it made stops too.
Just on the bus, not as much room to move around, can't see out the windows as well.. and it's a good 4 hour drive....plus just one bathroom (although the rest rooms on the trains I've been on haven't been very nice either)
Why not take the train?
