Wondering if anyone has recommendations for a car transfer service from Rome airport to Amalfi town? There will be four of us with carryon luggage only. I would like to compare pricing with the train option. I’ve searched the forum and Rick’s Facebook page as well and haven’t had much luck with transfer suggestions.
Hi Ashley -
You're likely not finding much because a transfer of this distance is so expensive that few here have done/will do it. As well, it's a long trip after many hours on a plane, if you're coming directly from the US: around 3.5 hours, depending on traffic. That said, cost divided amongst 4 might be worth the price to you for direct service so here's one thread with a similar question within the past year; just ignore the car rental part:
This is the website for the service Christine recommended. Although she used it from Naples> Sorrento and Sorrento> Amalfi (much shorter distances), you can inquire about long-distance transfer rates.

As Roberto notes in that thread, I would expect fees of somewhere around €550 - €600.
Hi Kathy,
Thanks so much for that information, it’s definitely helpful. I’ve contacted the company for pricing. I had been leaning towards a private transfer as I will be landing in Rome (from Canada) with my parents and would like to have the most direct way of getting to Amalfi mostly for their benefit. We don’t mind to pay a bit extra. However, taking the train to Salerno is still something I am considering as well. We’ve been to Rome a couple times before so would like to head right to Amalfi. Travelling jet lagged isn’t ideal but it’s something we’ve done before.
I'd comment also that even a Mercedes sedan is a bit cramped for four passengers. It doesn't feel like a luxury transfer to me. But I agree that two train rides (including Airport-Termini), and then finding your car service (Naples-Amalfi, maybe 125 Euros?) is a drag, too. But you are deliberately visiting a remote (not, "isolated") location! I'm just assuming there, that the hot, gritty, Circumvesuviana is not acceptable with luggage.
Note that the Frecciarossa train service (really fast) is sold like air tickets, expensive as a walk-up. Valid only on one specific departure.
We used our hotel's land partner company, charged to our room, for Sorrento-Naples.
Be sure to make appropriate time allowances for your departure, like maybe a night in Rome.
Are you flying into FCO-Fiumicino or CIA-Ciampino airport?
Trenitalia's direct train from FCO to Naples #8335 departs daily from the airport station at 09:38 AM. The walk-up fare is 62 Euro per adult (i.e. anyone older than 15). I wouldn't buy 4 non-changeable discounted train tickets after a transatlantic flight.
If (big if, I know) you take this direct train, you can meet the private driver in Naples and save both time and money. After a flight I'd rather relax for a couple of hours on an high speed trains rather than being cramped in a Mercedes for almost 4 hours.
I would take the train to Salerno and the ferry to Amalfi from there. The scenery on the way is spectacular and you avoid the circumvesuviana.
We used Top Excursion to take us from FCO to our hotel in Pompei in April 2022. For us, it was worth every Euro. We are always exhausted and disoriented after the overnight flight - and all we had to do at FCO was look for someone holding a tablet with our name on it.
I’ve used Aldo Limos for four days of transfers over the last few years. It’s a small, family-run company. They are extremely responsive by email and will do pretty much any transfer you need. Their drivers are always extremely nice and easy to talk to. They always pick us up in a nice Mercedes van.
