Hire large/Private car/driver, or Rent car to drive 6 adults from Rome airport to Amalfi Coast?

Hi,

What are the companies to contact to hire a private car/driver to drive 6 adults one way from Airport in Rome (FCO) to our accommodations in Sorrento on the Amalfi Coast? We are there 4 nights, then back to Rome for 4 nights in early July. About what might be the cost? (assume it will need to be a big car give our number and some luggage.)

Is it significantly less for us to rent a car for this purpose?

Thanks!

The one below is one that is very well rated, but you can Google NOLEGGIO CON CONDUCENTE followed by the name of the cities (FIUMICINO AEROPORTO SORRENTO) or even in English, AIRPORT TRANSFER and you will find many companies, the prices will range from €500 to €600 one way. If you rent a van for a day with return in Sorrento, I’m sure it will be less than half that including fuel and the tolls. The problem might be that you may not feel like driving jet lagged for almost 3 hours.

If you take the train the full price of a train ticket bought on the spot is approximately €62 one way per person to Naples. Then from Naples you would need either the commuter train (about €5 per person, or if you prefer a private car from the Napoli Centrale station to Sorrento, for about €80_100. So for 6 people the train doesn’t save you much and it adds to the hassle, so I would check whether a van rental is a viable option for you (cost plus the chore of driving) or otherwise go with a private transfer company.

Thank you both so much! My husband likes to drive, so that maybe that is a good option. Preference on rental companies in Italy, or just google and price compare?

AutoEurope.com

Do a search, they are highly recommended here and used by many, including us…always.

However that drive is not exactly fun and parking in Sorrento is a huge issue. A van will be very problematic
You won’t want to be driving around that area at all.

We used Top Excursions for transfers from Naples to Sorrento and Sorrento to Amalfi. Highly recommend

I also always use the broker/consolidator www.AutoEurope.com. However I’m not sure if they have deals for one way, one day rentals. In you case one day one way rental is all you need because it is likely that you won’t need to keep the van for more than just the trip itself. Parking in town is not easy and visiting the Amalfi coast is probably easier by bus or ferry. The rental car companies with offices in Sorrento are Avis-Budget, Europcar, Hertz.

Also I'd like to add that renting 2 economy cars will be much cheaper than renting 1 van, therefore if you have 2 adults willing to drive, that would be the better option. I'm sure a van, even for one day, will be more than a private car service.
