Rome Colosseum

If you have purchased a Roma Pass, do you still need to make a reservation in advance to tour the Colosseum or are you able to get in without having a prior reservation?

You need to make a prior reservation to make sure you can get in on the day you need/want to. I've seen reports of people who didn't make those reservations and were not able to get in on the one day they had to do it. There is no priority-entrance line for pass holders who don't have reservations, and standing in a long ticket queue isn't a good use of your time.

See the FAQ page of the Roma Pass under topic #7 more on this:

http://www.romapass.it/en/FAQ/

"For which museums it is necessary to make a reservation?

Borghese Gallery: Service with Roma Pass temporarily suspended. We apologize for the inconvenience.
For the Coliseum.....and Palazzo Valentini (Domus Romane), the ticket reservation is required, since the museum allows a limited number of visitors. It is highly recommended to book at least 10 days in advance. You can make a reservation even if you are not in possession of your Roma Pass card yet, always providing the name of the Roma Pass holder."

It goes on to explain how to make reservations.

Here are a couple of previous posters who were unable to get in without that prior reservation:

I was at the Colosseum in late April and even with reservations, it was a long wait, I would never think about going there without reservations, but it might not be as crowded in the winter, however there is no reason to take a chance. Lots and lots of tourists.

IMHO, as procedures for Colosseum ticketing and/or using the Roma Pass have changed so often or so abruptly this past year, I'd use the FAQs of the Roma Pass website itself for the latest on what that pass will or won't cover, and how to make any necessary reservations.

At the Coopculture website they offer tours of the underground and level 3 (in several combinations).
It appears that there's no way to use the Roma Pass to get a discount against them.
Do you know?
