Renting bikes for the Sunday Via Appia Antica Way ride

Hi everyone,
My daughter and I want to ride bikes tomorrow (Sunday) on the Via Appia Antica. My question is are there bike rental shops there or would we need to rent bikes in town and haul them out there.

Does anyone know?

In my younger days, I did lots of long distance biking, doing about 5,000 miles a year on my road bike.

I love Italy, but I would never seek to ride a bike on a road in Italy that also included cars, unless the traffic was very, very light.
I have been to the Via Appia and not sure that it would be a great idea to bike on it.

Perhaps you know something that I don't, just take care.

I would be interested in your experience! We are going in the summer and are also looking at e-bike Appian way on a Sunday.

This seems to be the most “official” way to rent a bike (or e-bike). It is a little off the beaten path (ie you need a bus or a REALLY long walk to get there).

BUT
There are lots of posts on Reddit and even the Rick Steves forum share a lot of caution about doing this

HOWEVER
When you look at guided tours (pretty much any of them), the reviews are generally glowing.

This leads me to believe that renting e-bikes on your own is perilous, but going with a guide makes it all good. So we have booked a guide. Also a guided was just a little more than the e-bike rental for a day anyway.

I’ve never been to the Appian Way, so I have nothing to base this on, other than what I see posted.
Please share your exeperience!

Thanks!

Shana, here's some bike rental info from the Parco Dell' Appia Antica website (scroll through):
https://www.parcoappiaantica.it/visitare-il-parco/rete-di-accoglienza/

Specific info for one of the rental offices ON the Appia; it looks to be very near the church of Quo Vadis - a northernly point on the road - and may be a good choice.

(I see this was mentioned by a couple other posts above)

PS: We didn't bike but walked some 5-6 miles of the Appia and had a great day. Yes, there will be rough spots in the road that will be a bone-shaking experience on 2 wheels but there was often a very narrow dirt path along the side for working around them.
