Recommendations for First Timers in Tuscany! San Gimignano and Florence

Hi All!

I will be traveling to Italy at the end of March with someone who has never been to europe. We will be staying in San Gimignano and Florence and would really appreciate any restaurant recommendations!! There are so many that look so wonderful - so figured I would ask for some first hand recommendations.

Appreciate all of you!

We had the best meal of our trip in Florence a few years ago at Osteria Veni e Vecchi Sapori…it’s very close to the Piazza Della Signoria. The duck ragu was amazing, as was everything. Trattoria Sostanza is another classic (the butter chicken is famous) and they do the big Tuscan steak! Get your host or hotel to call and make reservations at either/both. Do not miss the messy, delicious sandwiches from All antico Vinaio…grab one to share and find a suitable spot to enjoy. My uncle swears by the tripe sandwiches around town. Be sure to have gelato everyday! Mouth is watering as I type this!

I like Acquacotta Trattoria on Via dei Pilastri, 51/R in Florence. It's a small restaurant that was near the apartment I stayed in. I went twice in the week I was there. They don't have their own website, but you can get some info from Google. I had Tuscan roast pork one night and a rabbit dish the other. Very welcoming and a good choice of entrees and wine. Just go with the house wine, it was great.
