Question re. train from Vernazza to Rome Airport

Is it possible to catch a train from Vernazza (or LaSpezia) that lands us at FCO where we could catch a shuttle to Hotel Tiber. Hotel Tiber tells me that there is an airport shuttle that departs from the exit area of Terminal 3 Arrivals.

I'm not familiar with trains in Italy and am not at all sure this works.

If this route is possible, can you guide me on how (and when) I could book a train from Vernazza that would land me at FCO?

Thank you!

Agnes, I didn't mean to be redundant. I have now discovered that the Hotel Tiber shuttle is only from the airport and am wondering if a train from LaSpezia goes directly to the airport or if it drops me "near" the airport and i'd need to find transportation into the airport area to get the shuttle to the Tiber. Sorry if I posted this incorrectly.

Here’s a link to the Tren Italia website. Just fill in the blanks to find the service on your particular dates. When entering cities enter Fiumicino as your destination. It’s about a ten minute walk after exiting the train terminal to the shuttle bus pickup area.

Trains from La Spezia do not stop near the airport (FCO). You will need to either go to Termini and take the Leonardo Express to the airport or go to Ostiense (intercity trains only) and take a regional train to the airport. If you're uncomfortable taking the regional train to the airport, all intercity trains continue one more stop from Ostiense to Termini.

Hotel Tiber's website says they offer shuttle service to Civitavecchia cruise port (the train station where both the high-speed and intercity trains stop is closeby), but it's highly unlikely shuttle service from Civitavecchia would be free. Did you ask them about free shuttle service or all shuttle services?

No free shuttle service and from the Civitavecchia cruise port it is 70e for two.

8e per person from the airport.

what would you recommend, Frank? i'm less concerned about cost than i am about ease of operation!

Sorry, just saw your follow-up question. Provided the hotel's shuttle service will meet you at the Civitavecchia train station rather than the cruise port, that seems to be the easier route. For 70 euro, the shuttle could take the 2 of you directly from the train station to the hotel. Also, the Intercity train will arrive in Civitavecchia about 2 hours earlier than you would get to the airport. I calculate the additional cost of going on to Termini (2 x 8 euro), taking the Leonardo Express to the airport (2 x 14 euro) and then the shuttle to the hotel (2 x 8 euro) as totaling 60 euro. So, for only 10 euro extra you could take the shuttle from Cicitavecchia, probably arrive at the hotel at least an hour earlier and have fewer changes. If the cruise port shuttle runs on a specific schedule as opposed to by reservation, then you'd have to consider whether the timing of the shuttle service makes sense.
