That's the guestion? We are just back from Tuscany and it was great!
Which region next?
We will travel in May and will have a car. My husband is a pretty good driver! );
We, my husband and me, are 55+, love small villages, good food and wine. Prefer to walk to restaurants and stay in the villages.
The next question will be where to stay?
Town and accommodation.
Thank you
Appreciate your help!
What is La Lavagne?
I am sorry. ): ):
La Langhe!
Le Langhe and Monferrato are a wine producing area within the Region of Piemonte. It has similarities with the Chianti Hills in Tuscany. Piemonte is not just Le Langhe. It has lake Maggiore and the Alps to offer.
Puglia is a large Region that is most famous for its coast, especially the Gargano, the Salento, and the Tremiti islands. It is also renowned for the peculiar buildings of Alberobello, called Trulli, and the Baroque architecture in Lecce. It is the largest olive oil producer in Italy, therefore expect lots of olive groves. The famous city of Matera, although technically in the region of Basilicata, is close.
Do a Google Image search of the locations I mentioned above, look at the pictures that come up, and decide.
Another region you might consider for your next trip is also Sicily, if you haven't been. It's consistently voted the most beautiful Region by Italians.
If Sicily interests you, you may find my trip report from April-May of 2014 useful. I had a great time, and it was the perfect time to visit - warm but not too hot. Driving works well there; just start in Palermo and pick up the car as you leave, or end in Palermo and drop the car when you arrive. https://community.ricksteves.com/travel-forum/trip-reports/sicily-palermo-caltanisetta-siracusa-taormina
I have been to Torino and really liked it; it's very different from other Italian cities. I haven't been to the rest of Piemonte or to Puglia, so I can't compare.
