Puglia Hotel Recommendations

Hi! I'm looking for hotel recommendations in the following towns: Bari, Matera, Alberobello (Trullo), and Lecce. I will be staying at least 2 nights in each location. I will not have a car and will need something that is convenient to public transportation. Not interested in a 5 star property, but looking for clean, comfortable and safe. I also don't need a kitchen. I'm looking to travel in the late September/early October timeframe. The travel book I purchased had limited suggestions which all required a car. Thank you for any suggestions!

In Matera, I can recommend B&B La Corte dei Pastori, Vico Bruno Buozzi 4/5, wonderful experience, spotless, great breakfast, wonderful hosts. We really enjoyed our stay in Lecce, but I wouldn't recommend where we stayed. It was fine for our purposes, but wouldn't stay there again. We took a day trip to Bari. Its a wonderful city and highly recommend for an overnight. We had a great experience staying in Alberbello in a Trullo. We used the following:

Piazza XXVII Maggio, 38
70011 – Alberobello (BA) – ITALY

You can search this forum for recommendations for each location
Search “Bari hotels” filter results by Type and Date

Use booking.com
Filter by location, budget, amenities ( AC, elevator, etc)
You can trust the reviews there as those can only be left by folks who have actually stayed at the property
Reviews can also be filtered

Here is Bari search for past year

I always had a car every time I’ve been to Puglia so most of my hotels are generally not walkable from the train station or bus station, with one notable exception, the hotel where I stayed in Lecce, which was 2 minutes walk from the station and no more than 10-15 min walk to the sights in the city center.

The link on Google Maps is below, so you can see the exact location. It’s a 4 star, but was not expensive last July. They have a pool too, if you happen to be there when it’s hot.

Below is their website.

For everything else I suggest you peruse www.booking.com. You can filter the amenities and type of properties you want and you can also see the exact location on the site map.

I’ve stayed in all of those cities - some multiple times during the trips in 2024, 2025, 2026. The names of my lodging are in my trip reports. Do not stay where I stayed in Bari this year; the previous place in 2024 & 25 was much better!

We were just there 2 weeks ago! In Matera we stayed at Vetera Matera. A fabulous “cave hotel”. Breakfast was also in a cave. Staff was impeccable. We stayed in Bari our last 2 nights to be close to the airport, at the Dilman
Hotel. A newer hotel just a few blocks and an easy walk to the old town. Again, incredible helpful staff and great breakfast.
