Public Transit To Hadrian's Villa From Rome and Back

I'm struggling with how to use public transit to and from Hadrian's Villa from Rome.

Taking the Metro B line from Termini station to Ponte Mammolo station sounds fairly straight forward. From Ponte Mammolo station to and from Hadrian's Villa, not so much.

It appears that there is a Cotral Bus that leaves from Ponte Mammolo station to Scavi di Villa Adriana at 8:45 am. That seems fairly straight forward.

My confusion is in regard to the return to Ponte Mammolo station. Where do we go to catch the return bus? The Cotral website doesn't show any returns from Scavi di Villa Adriana, just Villa Adriana. My guess is that they are two different stops.

Any tips you'd be willing to share would be appreciated.

Thanks.

A fair amount has been covered recently [past year] in the forum regarding getting to/from Tivoli - you may have to sort through the various posts:

Trenitalia offers a combined rail/bus ticket - put in Roma Tiburtina for departure and Tivoli Hadrian's Villa as destination - it appears they offer a dedicated bus from downtown Tivoli.

For the Cotral bus, I believe that once you get to the scavi, they can tell you where to catch the return bus. As I recall when I was researching this trip, in some cases you had to walk out to the main road to catch the local bus. If Trenitalia is offering a dedicated bus, that could be preferable.

If you open Google Maps for the area and zoom in you can see the individual bus stops - they usually have a number that you may be able to compare to the various schedules.

I believe the official website for the scavi gave at least some directions, but it can apparently be accessed only during business hours in Italy.

Here is the text from the official website regarding transportation:

By BUS from Rome: Take the subway, Metro B, and get off at the station of Ponte Mammolo, then take the Co.Tra.L. bus via Prenestina (preferable), which stops about 300 m from the entrance to the Villa; otherwise take the Co.Tra.L bus via Tiburtina or via the motorway, which stops on the Via Tiburtina near the hamlet of Tivoli Villa Adriana, then proceed on foot for about 2 km.

BY RAIL from Stazione Termini or from Stazione Tiburtina until reaching the railway station of Tivoli. After this, take one of the local buses (CAT 4 or CAT 4 X) which stop at the entrance to the site. You can also take a Co.Tra.L bus via Prenestina, which stops about 300 m from the entrance to the site or use one of the other Rome-Tivoli bus service lines, which stop on the Via Tiburtina about 2 km from the entrance. Alternatively, you can travel by train to the station of Bagni di Tivoli (Tivoli Terme) and then use the Rome -Tivoli-via Tiburtina Co.Tra.L bus service

Here is the link - you may already have it:

On Google Maps, if you click on a bus stop, and then click on a specific bus if you can get the schedule to expand, the bus route may be highlighted on the map.

Thanks. What is "the official website" that you refer to above?
