Place to stay on Amalfi coast with a pool for 12 adults & 4 kids

Does anyone have a recommendation for a complex with separate apartments or villas or one large villa for our large group? Also, because we are traveling with kids (3-11 ages) , we were looking for a spot that will be easy to go to other towns, ferries etc.

I would just go to Booking.com and start looking--places in this area book up many months in advance and you should be looking at what is actually available. You can sort there by property type and pool availability (rare).

You might have better luck finding that size and type of lodging in Sorrento or Salerno

Salerno actually has a sandy beach and you will find lodging to be less expensive there.

Both are transportation hubs

Getting to/from Naples and Rome would be easiest from Salerno

I am a bit saddened by the latest reply. We did realize when we should book & we did book a place in Nerano in December. However, just this week we received new information about where we have booked & how access to travel maybe very difficult . We were just reaching out to the Rick Steves community in case anyone had any ideas for other places . We have always received kind & helpful advice here.

Thank you for filling in the big gap.

Have you cancelled the place you booked? The others are correct - this is extremely late in the game to be looking for a new suitable place for 12 adults and 4 kids in the height of the season, with a pool and access to nearby towns and ferries.

You need to find that replacement and then cancel the other, but watch the cancellation conditions.

Anything you find now will be leftovers after everything good has been picked months ago.

You were warned in a previous thread about the heat on the Amalfi coast in August but didn't reply, so I guess that's OK?

Good luck... I hope you find what you're looking for.

Thanks Nigel
My husband & I have travelled to Italy twice & do realize that August is not the best time to come to the Amalfi coast.
However, it is the only time 2 of our sons, their families & their friends from Scotland can come.
Everyone’s budget is a bit limited & so when we were searching & taking in the factors of heat, budget etc , a place in Nerano came up that has the pool, beautiful accommodations & in their budget. The only problem that is now worrisome is that it will be tricky to go to places like Capri, Amalfi & Positano without doing a bus transfer or boat tours with 4 kids. We were under the impression that the place provided a shuttle service & just found out this week that they have stopped that. We were just reaching out to see if by chance someone in this great community had any places they knew of. We will make it work and have a great time just being together. I should have been clearer in my first post.
Thanks for your kindness & wishes.

I stayed in a lovely villa near Nerano two years ago: Mic's Place It would have lots of room for your group and has a pool. All of it has a killer view of Capri. However, it is inaccessible without cars. And the driving was not very pleasant, steep, blind corners, narrow roads etc. But it was doable, we all survived (with a few scratches, buy the no-deductible rental car insurance.) It does have off-street parking for about 4 cars (after several acute blind turns)

I would rent this villa again, it was incredible and the manager and cleaning staff were fantastic. There were great walks, a few shops reachable on foot, limoncello producer etc. But to go to Nerano or other places, we had to load up the cars and our courage...it all worked out. Best of luck and enjoy your trip.

(And if by chance you want to switch coasts in Italy, I can recommend this place: Amazing Abruzzo. They have two neighbouring villas for rent, lots of activities on offer and the driving is a breeze. Safe, well maintained roads with clear lines of sight. Wonderful food, beach and mountains equally accessible. Just an option...)

Hi. Just a thought that the AC on a budget with a large family that wants a pool might be a stretch. I agree there are other places just as beautiful and with views, pools & maybe skip those hard to manage in August in the heat transfers along the AC? Where are you coming from? Train from Rome / Flying into Naples? The ideas of Abruzzo or Salerno were intriguing. If you choose Salerno, you can just take a ferry up the coast & frankly with the exception of Ravello, the best views are from the water. Good luck!

Not meaning to pile on here but I don't think any of us can overestimate how insane the coast is going to be in August. Everything from accommodations to public transit is going to be overwhelmed, and accommodation prices will be at peak. I would not have chosen Nerano if you're needing to get 16 people around by public transit, and I definitely would not consider renting/driving this region during high season for many reasons (see link below):

Your best bet is to try and locate somewhere with more than just SITA bus service; you want ferry too, and rail can be a plus...although there isn't any rail between Sorrento and Salerno.

The ferries can be a nice way to get around but they're not necessarily inexpensive, and there's no such thing as a day pass: tickets are point-to-point. Explore your options here if you haven't already.

I'd agree that Salerno would be a good place to start looking for accommodations for all the reasons already given. One caveat: it's 2 hours one-way from there to Capri, at ticket prices of around € 28 - € 25 o.w. SITA buses anywhere on the coast will be a real challenge if your group of 16 intends to do any day-tripping together, and if any in your group has issues with motion sickness, pack tried-and-true preventatives.

Honestly, Nancy, no one here means to be unpleasant or needlessly negative! We're just concerned that this particular part of Italy isn't a great choice for August, for trying to accommodate and move a large group around, for limited budgets, and without reservations at this late date. It's also not what I personally consider an ideal location for young children: there just isn't stuff there like children's museums, playgrounds, etc. you'd asked about in a previous post.
