I recently read that Pistoia, sometimes referred to as "little Florence," is worth a visit. Am interested to hear what RS readers have to say. Thanks so much!

Check this post I entered recently a few months ago. As you might know Pistoia was nominated the Cultural Capital of Italy for 2017.
I would like to add that I Skyped with my uncle in Pistoia on Easter Sunday and he told me that with the start of April the city is packed with international tourists like he has neven seen before in his lifetime. The city doesn't have the hotel accommodations to manage this year visitors' inflow largely due to the Cultural Capital designation, therefore many tourists are staying in nearby Montecatini Terme (a spa town with plenty of hotels) or Florence.

I stayed in Pistoia for a couple of nights and loved it! Definitely worth a visit.
