We will be driving from Menaggio to near Pisa, and would like to stop and check out The Cinque Terra for a few hours. Is Levanto a good place to park cars and take the train to Vernazza and the other Cinque Terra towns? Thanks!

Jim,
Yes, you can park your car in Levanto next to the train station.
You can also park in Monterosso Al Mare, and if you drive further South, you can park in La Spezia under the train station.
Check info regarding parking in the CT (including Levanto) : http://www.cinqueterre.eu.com/en/parking-cinque-terre
When will you be traveling to the CT?
Remember that parking lots may be full during the busy tourist season.
Jim,
Although Levanto is not far from the C.T., it would probably be better to park in Monterosso. There are two lots there, one at either end of town, so there should be lots of capacity. Of the two, the lot in the "new town" (Fegina) would provide easier access to the train station for getting back and forth.
Jim,
If you decide to park in Monterosso, you may want to read Roberto's post (1/30/15) on this thread which gives you detailed information about driving to Monterosso: https://community.ricksteves.com/travel-forum/italy/levanto-or-monterosso-as-base-for-cinque-terra
Wow thank you all for your magnificent and helpful responses! Sounds like Monterosso is the best place to get the train. We will be traveling the first week of May. Thanks
Jim,
FYI, it's only a 4 minute train ride from Levanto to Monterosso.
Have a great trip!
