We have decided to add Sicily into our coming trip itinerary. It was recommended by a RS consultant to consider taking the overnight Ferry from Naples to Palermo. Does anyone have thoughts and/or experience with this? Wondering if this could be a rough seas/ seasick experience. What is it like? We're thinking of staying in Cefalu. We are grateful for any advice, thoughts or guidance! Grazie!
We took the overnight ferry from Naples to Palermo and it was an easy, smooth trip. We had a small cabin, slept fine, and saw a nice sunrise arriving at Palermo. Wife was hesitant to take the ferry because of fear of getting seasick, but she was fine.
It really depends on the weather --- if the sea is rolling you will bob.
Which Ferry did you use? GNV?
Not a very good review of the GNV ferry from Civitavecchia-Palermo here.

Thanks Sam. That itinerary is from Rome, but point taken. The reviews are mixed for sure.
NAP to PMO I've flown.
You may also consider taking the train. There are direct ones and you will have the treat of getting loaded onto the ferry while sitting in the train. As far as i know the last train on ferry crossing in Europe.
We were on the Tirrenia Raffaele Rubattino ferry, huge ship, carried about 1500 passengers, and many cars on a separate deck.
