Hello,
Will be in Italy for 10 days end of May. We have booked a few museum/attraction entry online which specifically mentioned that an ID per person will be needed to enter with the tickets. For example: Academia/Uffizi, Vatican official guided tour, Colosseum, Last supper.
For obvious reasons, I will be more comfortable keeping the original passports in our rental homes (yes, am aware that Italy wants all its visitors to carry their passport in person but am ok to take the chance) and travel with e-copy of the passports in pone plus another ID like national card/ Driving license.
Will that be ok for entering the museums and other places please?
Many Thanks
Mainak
If it specifically says “passport” then that is what you must show
Anything else in not considered legal ID
Not a copy or photo or something else.
You can take a chance trying something else but know that they have a right to refuse entry if you do that
Italy doesn’t just “want” you to carry your passport, it is required by law.
Lots of passport discussions here on this forum
Here is one pertinent to travel this year

Thank you very much for the links to the similar threads.
After reading the discussions, this is what I think we should do. We will carry our passports with us, probably in a money belt (with all its discomfort 😊) so that they are secured (hopefully), and if needed could be presented. However, will keep another ID handy to show at entrances.
Thanks again
