Travel Advisory Passport Italy

I saw this on another site and thought I would share it here:

Travel Advisory for Italy: 2025 Jubilee year

PSI: Based on communications with Italian officials and the Italian Embassy, as well as my personal experiences traveling to Italy, please note the following:

Due to the 2025 Jubilee and the significant increase in visitors to Rome and Italy, there will be heightened security measures from now through the end of 2025. This includes an increased presence of police, law enforcement, and military personnel.

As in previous Jubilees, enforcement of passport regulations will be stricter. Travelers are advised to carry their original passports at all times. Copies of passports, which may have been accepted or overlooked in the past, are now unlikely to suffice. Non-compliance could result in fines or other penalties.

For your safety and convenience, consider using anti-theft options to secure your passport while traveling. These enhanced measures are partly aimed at offsetting the increased costs of security during this busy period.

I always carry my Passport with me, and that proved to be a very good decision on my last trip to Italy when I was injured and had to spend a week in hospital. That was the first thing the hospital asked for when I was admitted. When I was released from hospital, I was taken directly to the airport for my flight home.

It will also be the perfect opportunity to stay away from major Italian cities and visit the small towns instead.

Pickpocketing in Italy is pretty aggressive. If you are going to carry your original passport, do not carry it in a purse or backpack -- even a cross body purse. Carry it in a body safe (money belt or neck wallet) under your clothes. Odds you will have to show it are near zero but if you are required to do so, you will have it but not have it at risk.

What is the original source? Just wondering if there is other information that would be helpful to know.

The original source is from a person who runs tour company in Italy and publishes lots of articles on Facebook on Italy to go along with her advertising. She has been very accurate on what is currently happening in Italy and especially Rome. If I come across her FB postings, I will let you know the name. I can’t remember it now.
