Have you rented a car through Ryanair? $44 USD for five days sounds too good to be true

I'm taking my first Ryanair flight in March. I have read lots of negative comments/warnings about the airline, so I'm la bit leery about their offer. They sent me a link for a discount car rental. I reserved a car (pick up in Palermo and drop off in Catania). The rental company is Autovia and the cost is $44 USD (!!) for five days plus about $75 for the drop off fee. This sounds entirely too good to be true. Autovia won't communicate with me because I booked the car via Ryanair. Ryanair sent email confirming the above price. So I do have a guarantee in writing from Ryanair that I can present to Autovia. Is it only as good as the paper it's printed on?

As a back-up, I have reserved the same class of car at Sixt. Their fee sounds more realistic: about $320.

What do you think? Is the Ryanair price for real? Have any of you had experience renting via Ryanair offers?

We once rented in Sicily and returned it on the Italian mainland without any one-way drop off fee, so the $75 part isn’t entirely too good to be true. The rest is surprisingly low, I agree, but maybe it’s valid.

Off season car rentals can be crazy cheap - a few years ago, I rented a car in Kona for $14 a day. The employee who helped me said that he couldn’t even get it that cheap with his employee discount. Of course the car rental company will try to upsell you on insurance, GPS, etc. I think you’re fine to go with Ryanair but do Sixt if you feel more comfortable with it.

Thank you all. I knew I could count on your collected wisdom. I may be passing up the deal of the century, but $44 USD for a 5-day rental is just not credible and I don't want to take a chance. I have requested a refund from Ryanair and booked, instead from Sicily by Car, which I found thanks to the link above provided by Christine H.
Happy travels!
