United just alerted us that all of Italy has a ground handlers strike scheduled for July 15th so the probability of our flight being able to land is low. They're suggesting that we reroute into another country to arrive.
Zurich is fairly close, but I'm wondering if we can enter Italy by train if the strike is happening? Does that affect trains as well as aircraft? Does anyone know?
Much appreciated.
Thanks,
Someone else posted that United notified them of an air traffic controller strike in Italy that day.

Sounds like a bad day to fly into Italy. I don’t see why a “ground handlers” strike would affect train traffic at. If you can fly onto Zurich, there are direct trains to Milan that take less than 3.5 hours. They depart Zurich main station at 09:33, 11:33, 13:33, 15:33, etc. other options with changes on the way between those times.
