Good (and not particularly expensive) restaurants in Rome

I would appreciate it if some of you who have been to Rome could name some good restaurants for me. I realize nothing is cheap in this day and age, but I would particularly hearing about those restaurants that were good and something of a bargain. Also, let me know where in the city they are. Restaurants near the Colosseum, Vatican City, and the Pantheon would be particularly appreciated.

We will also be in Florence. The same information for Florence is also desirable.

Thanks.

Among my favorites would be L'Antica Enoteca. Pleasant interior and nice outdoor seating also. It can be a bit tricky to find, not on a main street. But in my opinion, worth searching out. Check the website for a map of its location. Not far from Piazza Navonne.

Rome: Restaurant Peppone near the Borghese Gardens
Florence: In town, La Bussola (in the tourist center) that has very good food and if you just want a pizza they have.
Much further afield in Florence is Trattoria Tullio a Montebeni which is in Fiesole. 30-40 minute cab ride there and back. So add about 80-100 euros to your bill. That said, one of the best bistecca I have ever had and it was “fried” yes Frito! They also have the more traditional version. It was a Sunday night and the place was full and we were the only American tourists in the place. Excellent food, service, and wine! another small local place was Ruggero that was small family place. Enjoyed them all!
