First Trip to Italy Solo & Female July 18- Aug 3rd

Hello everyone...I a flying into Rome on July 18-Aug 3rd. I land in the evening of July 19th. This is my first solo trip so I need some help with my trip itinerary... I don't now if I will be able to see everything that I want... But here are the days I will be spending in each place:

Rome (7-20 - 7-22) I plan on getting the Roma Pass....and plan on going to sights very early to avoid heavy traffic. I will leave at night on 7-22 and take the train from rome to naples. I will then take private car from Naples train station to sorrento....( Should I stay in Naples or Sorrento) I heard naples is not very safe....

Sorrento/Naples (7-23 - 7-25) Amalfi Coast area. I think I want to drive the amalfi coast myself and drive to Paestum one day. Second day pompeii herculaneum mt vesuvius and museum. Day 3 do a half day trip to Capri and the blue grotto tour( a must). Then back to Rome/Florence I go.

Florence: 3 days( 7-26 through 7-29)....I know i want to go to Chinque Terre for sure and into tuscany using viator tours...not to use how to get everything in or as much as possible in in just 3 days .Take the train from Florence to Milan in the evening and stay the night in Milan....

Milan: (7-30 through 8-2..leave early from venice...possibly fly back to rome or take train) through I have not decided if i will just stay the night in Milan for a night just to travel to lake como the next day. I was going to stay in Venice for 2 days with a side trip to Verona.....

Are the train systems fairly easy to figure out?
Would you recommend driving the Amalfi Coast then tour so I can go to Pasetum?
I will take all the advise I can get...and thank you in advance.

Reality check for Sorrento/Naples. You do NOT want to drive the Amalfi Coast in July. See my thread. You can take buses and/or ferries from Sorrento to the Amalfi Coast towns. According to the schedules, it's about 3 hours by bus from Sorrento to Salerno, about 2 hours by ferry (you'll have to change in Amalfi Town either way, so there's waiting time in addition). From Salerno you can take a bus or train to Paestum, takes about an hour. So that's at least 6 hours travel time roundtrip to Paestum. Add 2 hours at the sight. That gives you a little time to explore one or two of the AC towns. A really long day. Expect them to be crowded, and possibly with lines waiting to board. You could possibly see Pompeii, Herculaneum and the Archaeology Museum in Naples in one day. But it would be a long and exhausting day. Get to Pompeii by train when they open. Then it's 1/2 hour by train to Herculaneum (not including waiting time for the train, which runs about twice an hour and is sometimes on time). Then about an hour to the Museum in Naples (again not including waiting time for the train). A rental car will slow you down (traffic, especially in Naples, searching for parking). You will see Mt. Vesuvius from the train and while you are at the archaeology sites. If you want to go up Vesuvius, you'll have to drop something else. I would say you need a minimum of 2 hours at the museum, 2-3 hours at Herculaneum, and at least 3 hours at Pompeii. Another really long day.
