I will be traveling to Italy for me first time. My first half of my trip will be with friends in Tuscany But I will be continuing my trip solo to Rome and then Flying home from Naples. I am tentatively planning to stay 3 nights in Rome, 3 nights Amalfi Coat and last night in Naples. I would love some advise on tours, sightseeing, being a solo female traveler I thought tours would be best. Also traveling from Rome to Amalfi coat and then back to Naples. And i was wondering where would be the best place to stay to see the Amalfi coast, Sorrento? Positano? Amalfi? Any advice would be apricated, I am excited but a bit nervous since I will be solo but excited to see Italy it has always been a dream location for me to visit
Please search the forum, there are dozens of threads with lots of info on getting to and around the Amalfi area
My advice- with just 3 nights I would base in Sorrento
Consider using Mondo Guides for their small group tours
www.sharedtours.com
If your departure flight is later in day you could probably spend your last night in Sorrento

More info would enable better advice. When is your trip? Are you flying out from Naples? What are your interests?
A good guide book is usually an essential start to planning. The RS guides are particularly good for first time travelers, with lots of step-by-step instructions, self-guided city walking tours and major sight tours, and recommendations for guided tours and private guides. This would answer most, if not all, your questions about Rome.
Where to stay on the AC depends on what you want to do there. Do you want to spend time in Naples or your last stop because that's your departure airport?
Regarding being a solo female traveler, it's been a long time, but I took a solo trip to Florence in the summer of 2009 when I was in college. I've been to Italy several times with my family, although I've never been south of Rome. I frequently walk around by myself to go to the grocery store or do sights that my travel companions aren't particularly interested in (I have a nearly unlimited museum stamina haha). When sticking to the typical tourist areas, I've never felt uncomfortable. Saying that, the same rules apply as we females follow in the US - be aware of your surroundings and listen to your intuition. If you need directions, I find it helpful to have them play on google maps through my airpods - no one will know that you are listening to directions rather than music, and you'll look like you know exactly where you're going. Pack light, so that you can easily handle your own stuff. Don't accept "help" from "porters" in train stations unless they're in an official uniform. I haven't had an opportunity to do full solo travel in many years, but it's so incredibly freeing - you can do whatever YOU want, whenever YOU want to do it. Have so much fun!
Hi Megan,
As my husband doesn't like traveling, I've been traveling solo to Italy since 2008, every second year , and to other countries too.
I have a dear friend who comes for part of the time to join me from Scotland, but I'm sometimes alone for up to a week at a time.
I love it!
Read all the posts about safety, safe use of bank machines, trains, and good parts of towns to sleep in.
Rome is great on your own.
There is so much to see and you can just take your time and look at things for longer than if you were with others.
Sometimes I take a walking tour in places, for some human interaction.
I would give Naples a bit longer, maybe stay 3 nights there?
I've been there on my own, and it's like Rome...just so much to see and do.
I don't have any advice about the Amalfi area as I haven't made it there yet.
Being nervous is understandable, but you are already brave in starting to plan your first solo adventure!
