We will be in Naples, Mantera, Sorento and Positano in late September and early October and are looking for dining suggestions. We enjoy good food in fine dining restaurants as well as small cafes.
I presume most people enjoy good food, rather than bad food.
When I travel in Italy I use TheFork and also TripAdvisor to find good restaurants nearby.
They are the most used by Italians.
Da Carmine in Naples for home-style cooking on Via dei Tribunali. Family-run, rustic atmosphere, tasty food and low prices. Check their website for hours - it changes.
I loved Naples & we ate well, especially pizza and seafood! Here's a thread on some places to try. https://community.ricksteves.com/travel-forum/italy/favorite-pizza-restaurants-in-naples.
- Consider a food walking tour, it's our favorite way to get to know a new city, with the added bonus of eating well. We've taken Eating Europe tours & been impressed, but not done it in Naples. https://www.eatingeurope.com/naples/.
- Pizzeria Da Matteo was fabulous, very simple (atmosphere) place in the old town, even if you get there early, you will likely have to Q out in the street first. They literally served just a few pizzas, drinks & red or white house wine. https://anticapizzeriadimatteo.it/en/home-english/
small cafes
Note that such places in Italy do not have a proper kitchen; so they mostly serve salads, cold cuts, grilled sandwiches and microwaved "dishes".
