Just be aware that the train stop is obviously not the one on the Circumvesuvia line (Pompeii Scavi) but the one in modern Pompeii, hence the 10 minute taxi ride.

Saves a little time I suppose.

Right, It doesn't go to the main entrance at Pompei Scavi - Villa dei Misteri station; served by the Circumvesuviana and Campania Express. I'm also seeing this train running only on the 16th (so far). Maybe it's a test?

IMHO, the Porta Marina Entrance is walkable from Pompei station; there is sidewalk the entire way. It's just weird that I'm not seeing this train - going either direction - on any other day.

If you need luggage storage, you would have to go to the main Scavi entrance, but if not, this looks great for people who attempt day trips from Rome, since you can indeed walk to the Piazza Immacolata entrance.

Kathy, for the purposes of this discussion, your statement is misleading. Trenitalia has three stations in modern Pompeii. The Circumvesuviana has one station called "Pompeii Scavi." Only one of the four stations, Pompeii Scavi is a trivial distance from the ancient site, at the Porta Marina entrance.

Not really a benefit to a tourist trying to do a day trip from Rome to the Ruins.

What time is the return trip? ( assuming there is one)

Actually the presentation of the new "service" by the Italian PM was bordering on the ridiculous. There was a big distance from the sight of all authorities riding the new train and the actual usefulness of the service.

Phew, I came to check that someone had given the key information on just how infrequent this service is -- glad to see Lâchera did so !

Yep, thanks to Lâchera for THAT not-so-little detail!
