Dealing with Aeroitalia Airline

I booked a round trip flight from Rome to Palermo for our Sicily tour in April. On March 17th I received an email that the flight from Rome to Palermo had been cancelled, but the return flight is still okay. (not sure how that's possible??) I have responded as they requested by filling out an online form for re-booking, but there has been no response. I have repeatedly tried to access their website, but when I try to access my flight or re-book, it never connects. I have called 2 twice and the message is always the same, you're #2 in the queue. However when it says I'm next for the next available agent, it then says all agents are busy, to please call back and disconnects. Obviously this is very frustrating, but more importantly I now have to find another flight so I can make the tour. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Looks like Ryan Air flies the route on the cheaps, too. ITA price does not look bad, either.

Airlines are shady. Discount airlines that operate a total of 11 planes? Very, very, very shady.

I just flew this route earlier this month on ITA and had no issues, they fly into/out of Palermo frequently during the day.

At the risk of being Mr Obvious, you are accounting for the time difference?

Being a less than 2 yr old operation, I suspect they are ironing out the wrinkles on a shoestring budget, and the customer service dept. is a bare bones operation.

As Dave suggests get flights set up on ITA or Ryanair and then work on the refund issue with Aeroitalia.

I will be on the RS Sicily tour a few weeks after you and have reservations on ITA to fly tom Rome to Palermo before the tour...then from Catania to Rome after the tour. As irritating as the situation is with your Aeroitalia reservation, it seems to me that the most important thing is to get to Palermo for the tour, hopefully without an extreme amount of stress. Have you considered booking a reservation on ITA from Rome to Palermo - - - maybe on a refundable fare in case you end up flying on Aeroitalia after all?

Thanks to everyone for their input. It appears from these comments, plus outside reviews, service may be a bit uneven, so I guess it's buyer beware. We have now booked with Ryanair, so hopefully that'll go smoothly. Thanks again for everyone's help. Ciao.

It will provided you've carefully read everything on their website and understand they will enforce each and every rule and extra fee, no exceptions. So make sure your luggage size and weight is ok, that you check in online, that you're at the gate 30 minutes before departure, etc.
