Covid-tested flights to Italy from West Coast of US?

Does anyone know of five tested flights or airlines that will be flying DIRECT from LA or SF (or other west coast city) to Italy? I know we can connect and go from East coast on Covid-tested flight but would rather not, if possible. Thanks!

None that I am aware of. As in NO direct flights from the West Coast to Italy (covid Free or not), last I checked. Years ago Alitalia did out of Los Angeles but that was years ago.

Short answer--no, there isn't one.

There currently are no non-stop flights between California and Italy, Covid-free or otherwise. Alitalia is scheduled to start up LAX-FCO in August, but A) it's not currently showing as a Covid-free flight, and B) Alitalia's existence in August is still an open question.

Last time I checked (last week) Covid free flights have only been approved by Italy through the end of July. I presume they hope they will not be needed after that date.

Delta is selling Covid-free flights through October, and has been for at least a week (I booked one, ATL-VCE.) Whether they'll still be necessary at that point, we shall see.

Not yet.

I'm looking to fly from LAX to Rome (FCO).

I flew non-stop in April of 2019 back and forth.

my friends just looked into this and found nothing nonstop, so they're flying to the east coast first

It does appear that the Covid-tested flights may not be necessary in another month or two. We hope to know something soon.

There will be new government rules issued for after July 31, so you need to wait if they remove or ease certain travel restrictions depending on the numbers of new cases and deaths.

Although LAX is a designated gateway for Covid tested flights however I don’t think Alitalia has resumed that non stop flight. Alitalia will be folded (supposedly) in October, so I’m not sure their financial situation will allow for such flight especially given the fact the flights will not be full.

Once Alitalia is gone a new company called ITA will become Italy’s new flag carrier (a much smaller one, about half the size of the current company. European competition rules will not allow ITA to honor Alitalia tickets already sold by Alitalia for travel after Oct 1. The Alitalia trademark will be sold at auction, but not necessarily acquired by ITA, although ITA will be allowed to bid.

Thank you all for the great info. I’ll keep an eye out as rules change after July 1.

Can someone explain COVID tested flights to me. I am going to Milan from SF with a layover in Frankfurt on United. From United website I need a negative COVID test 72 hours prior to arriving, vaccination plus a European form filled out. It says nothing about be a COVID tested flight.

The only approved COVID tested flights are non stop only
With that layover in Frankfurt you’ll have to quarantine in Italy according to the rules now

Could change —when is your flight?

@Mark — Bill, who is currently in Italy, posted on the Forum recently about his experience taking a Covid-free flight to Italy.

You can find his thread here:

And over on the Covid-19 section of the Forum, somebody posted a link to an article (with lots of accompanying photos) by someone who wrote on The Points Guy website about their experience with a Covid-free flight into Italy.

I booked a nonstop flight from LAX to Rome for August 1st via Delta website, but it will be on Alitalia. Is this a covid free flight?
