It's a problem getting tickets. As reported here, many third party sellers do not actually have the tickets in hand when they sell them to a customer. Then, when the vendors can't get the tickets, they cancel your tour at the last minute.
Good luck!

For obvious reasons Third parties can't re-sell tickets that haven't been released, yet.
They can take your money in advance and try to get the tickets you want using automated bots. In short you are paying double to hire a bot that could be successful or could fail. Do as you prefer, but I don't get why waiting 30 days to pay less and avoid last minute "cancellations" should be frustrating.

are 30 days out tickets readily available if we just want the standard tickets, not underground, etc.? Taking friends who just want to "see" the Colo.

After studying how to even get a ticket into the Colosseum in October 2023 (which is not supposed to be high season but is this year!), we could not even book a basic ticket (that did not include Arena or Underground). Finally, I got a tip about buying a membership through CoopCulture. While you are buying the membership you can select an entrance date and time (that you have to book even if you are a member). The membership includes Arena access, but I cannot see how you book this so fingers crossed when we pick up our tickets at the Colosseum ticket office. This membership costs 80E but is for unlimited entrance to Colosseum, Forum and Palatine for a year for 2 adults and 3 children. It also includes discounts for some things. For us, well worth the cost vs trying to stay up at night and try to time buying tickets when they are released. From what I read, the tour guides buy them all up anyway. https://ecm.coopculture.it/index.php?catalogid=A9EDB19D-B141-9664-0877-0179F137D2F0&id=FC40F72D-589B-918C-34C3-017984B6A2D4&option=com_snapp&view=event&lang=en
