Bus station at Florence airport

Hubby and I will be going from Vienna to Lucca in September. We will fly from Vienna to Florence and initially I figured we would take a train to Lucca. This would mean getting from airport to central station, then train to Lucca.

The owner of the B&B in Lucca where we’re staying, also suggested taking a bus from the Florence airport to Lucca. Seems like this might be a good option. My question: is the bus station located at the Florence airport or would we need to walk or take a taxi to the bus station? Is this the best option?

It would be cheaper to fly from Vienna to Bologna, but from there to Lucca is a longer train ride. What to do, what to do?

Thanks once again for your help. Always appreciated.

Who don’t you take a Vienna Pisa Flight much more convenient, cheaper and quicker to go to Lucca

Already checked Google flights and sky scanner for flights from Vienna to Pisa. No direct flights and more expensive.

No, there are direct buses Florence to Lucca that stop at the airport en route:

There is no bus station at the airport. I believe - but is should be better to ask around - that the stop is just walking out the airport area in via Giovanni Luder. If you have a look to google maps and switch to street view in via Giovanni Luder, there is first a gas station, than a row of cypresses, and finally the traffic light leading, after a right turn, to the airport. After the cypresses there is a bus stop and probably that is the one.

Thanks to all. The hotel where we are staying in Lucca also sent the link to bus information. Seems like it should be fairly simple. Famous last words!

The new T2 tram line goes from the Florence airport directly to the Florence train station, Santa Maria Novela, where you could catch a train to Lucca.

Seattle Becky is right. The easiest way to get from the Florence airport to the train station in town is the tram. (When I asked for a bus ticket I was asked, "Why do you try to make it so hard?") Tickets can be purchased next to the track at a vending machine.

If you decide to take a bus to Lucca, the bus station is across a street from the train station, so the tram is the best option for that choice, too.

Thanks to both Beckys. Great to know about the tram going to the train station. That’s what we will do.

Thanks to all.

I third the recommendation for the tram from the airport to the train station. It's super smooth and easy. I had trouble finding info about it when we used it last May because it's so new. I think we found the best info on the Firenze airport website. (Later we had to get there by rental car and it was a nightmare).

Have fun in Lucca-- that's where my family is, so my Italian "hometown" and my favourite place in Italy.
