Our cruise ports at LaSpezia in August. What's the "best" way to get 6 people (2 adults and 4 kiddos) to Pisa for the day? Sounds like we should avoid the Cinque Terre since most cruisers will go there- and my kids are super excited about seeing the Leaning Tower in person. Any tours that you could recommend that we could see Pisa and maybe a little of the surrounding area as well? We are semi-adventurous so could easily take the train if that's the best option.
Taxi to La Spezia Centrale station then train to Pisa.
Train time tables below:
www.trenitalia.com
Enter from LA SPEZIA CENTRALE
to PISA SAN ROSSORE
or to PISA CENTRALE.
The Pisa Centrale station is the main station and all trains stop there, including faster Intercity and FrecciaBianca trains.
The Pisa San Rossore station is a secondary train station that comes before Pisa Centrale, coming from La Spezia. The advantage of S.Rossore is that it is just 5-10 min walk from the leaning tower, however only slower Regional trains from La Spezia stop at that station, before heading to Pisa Centrale (the next station). Pisa Centrale station comes after San Rossore. Walking to the tower from Centrale is almost 30 min walk (but there are buses you can take).
Regional trains take about 70-75 minutes from La Spezia to Pisa San Rossore. Faster (and more expensive) Intercity trains take about 55 min to Pisa Centrale. Given the proximity of San Rossore to the tower, and the inexpensive price of regional trains, I would take a regional train to S.Rossore. An Intercity would save you only 20 minutes to Pisa Centrale, but then that time saved would be wasted in the longer walk to the tower.

Walking instructions from San Rossore to Leaning Tower in my comment in the post above.
I haven't used this company for shore excursions but I have used them for local walking tours and they were very good.
They have a number of Shore Excursions that run from La Spezia and will do cars or vans depending the size of your group. Pricing is listed on the website.
This is their "Classic Pisa" tour: https://en.turislucca.com/guided-tours-for-individuals/classic-tour-of-pisa-2/
Either way enjoy Pisa!
