I’ve noticed that several websites show that Pisa S. Rossore is a five minute walk to the Leaning Tower/Square of Miracles as opposed to Pisa Centrale, which is twenty minutes. Yet, Google Maps show an eighteen minute walk along what looks to be a major roadway. Trains are more frequent to Pisa Centrale. Does anyone recommend Pisa S. Rossore over Pisa Centrale? Thanks!
Google maps has a very bad track record when it comes to walking directions and walking times in my opinion.
Apple Maps shows 12 minutes v 26 minutes to Centrale. Might be best to refer to both.
I don't know why Google wants you to walk along a "major roadway" (in Pisa?) and not to cross the Arno River, but I'd simply ignore Google and enjoy the classic stroll from Pisa Centrale to the field of miracles:

There isn't much to say about Pisa San Rossore station, it's a secondary station similar to all secondary stations. Most people don't wait for a train to S. Rossore: they exit Pisa Centrale and start walking simply because it's a nice walk.
Thanks. It looks like s major highway because Google says to walk to the west, cross, and back to the east.
What you posted looks beautiful. From the smaller station, we would pass a McDonalds. More options to Centrale too.
I enjoyed the walk from Centrale and would not hesitate to do it. I walked a different route on the way back which game an opportunity to see more of the city.
That sounds nice! Thanks!
When you Google direction to S. Rossore, the directions are terrible. When I was looking at that walking route I found that you need to Google: CicloPi 17 - San Rossore F.S., Via Andrea Pisano, 56122 Pisa PI, Italy.
This location is more or less due west of the Piazza del Duomo. Then if you use the satellite view you will see a walkway along the east side of the train tracks going north toward the train station. There is an underground cross over to get to the main part of the station. Also using street view you can see the Trenitalia station markers for the station entrance. It is a much shorter walk than from the Centrale station.
It does not have near as many trains and the Centraale station, and to my last knowledge, is an unmanned station. There were ticket kiosks, but no one to help you if needed.
Have a great trip/
We prefer to arrive at S. Rossore and depart from Centrale. That allows us to see the town and not have to worry about backtracking to catch the train back. S. Rossore is very close the the tower.
Thank you!
We were there in Sept. Arrived Pisa Centrale. The town is not big. We walked from Pisa C to the Arno in about 15 min (dragging bags) and then to our rooms in another 10. Very walkable, partly due to the fact that a lot of streets are ped only.
The walk from S. Rossore to the Piazza del Duomo (leaning tower) is less than 10 minutes (maybe 1/2 mile). Don't use google to calculate the path, as google doesn't know there is an underpass under the tracks that puts you right here on via Andrea Pisano.
From that point walk straight for 500 ft on this street. And then slight right, and you can already see the leaning tower
As Roberto and others have said, the walk from Rissore is close and easy to do. I went this way when I visited Pisa in June 2022. I used the underpass and then Google maps to find my hotel, which was right by the Field of Miracles. I liked how you could see the Tower when walking towards it on the city streets and the flea market just before entering the city walls. I was toting my carry on luggage too.
