Hello, for our October trip to Amalfi coast from Sorrento, we'd like to take RS's suggestion to arrange a tour by van/bus and return by boat. We didn't find any tours of this sort and are looking for recommendations.
Thank you. jc
Several years ago my friends and I took a bus from Sorrento to Amalfi with a stop in Positano. The bus ride was fine. We took a boat back which was very nice. I unfortunately do not remember details about the transportation, but it was a very enjoyable day.
thank you for responses
You can easily arrange this yourselves by hiring a private driver to take you to Amalfi
Then take ferry back
We used this company a few years ago and were very pleased

It can be difficult to download the off-season ferry schedule before October, but give it a try. Note that hiring a one-way car and driver for a two-hour trip on the single two-lane road that connects Sorrento and Amalfi-town (and which is famous for slow-moving traffic) implies that you are paying for an "empty return" of the vehicle. It's not like an urban Uber trip.

Try Mondo shared tours. They are much less expensive than other options, and you could probably just decide not to use them for the return trip. Good luck .
With 15 trips to the Amalfi coast, ranging from 2-5 days, I’d recommend taking the ferry to Amalfi and the bus back as the bus runs much later than the ferry.
I too don’t think the Path of the Gods, or even half of it is appropriate for a 1 day excursion.
I would do this.
Travel by ferry to Amalfi.
Bus to Ravello.
Hike back to Amalfi.
Return to Sorrento by bus from Amalfi. This will give you time for both lunch and an evening meal.
You’ll see much more, the views from Ravello are some of the best on the coast,
As are the hike back to Amalfi.
