Amalfi Coast in November

After 11 days in Sicily we have a group of 4 that will be heading to the Amalfi coast. Yes, we realize November isn't the ideal time but us working stiffs have to arrange around holidays to make the most of our time off. :) That said, I know the ferry's don't run and some things close but we still think it will be a lovely change of pace after sightseeing like mad for 11 days.

I wanted to ask if anyone here has personal experience with being there in November. Our current plan is to take the train from Catania to Salerno (because we are excited about the nerdy-cool aspect of the train actually going onto a ferry) and then bus from Salerno to Amalfi town and stay there. Has anyone here stayed in Amalfi in November? Was it relaxing and beautiful or a total washout with everything closed?

Thank you!

I love Amalfi however Nov is iffy and make keep u indoor a lot. Ck the nov rainfall historical records, and yes a lot will be closed in Nov. the trail to Ravello will also be wet - muddy. If poss make your route plan when u have a weather forecast. Or perhaps stay in Sorrento a terrific town with lots of options or just relax overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. U could always do a day trip from Sorrento to Amalfi.

I was there in February, stayed in Salerno with a rental car and drove the AC and to Paestum. My impression is that Salerno has a lot more restaurant options than any of the AC towns. I was very glad I chose to base there. It is also cheaper, both for food and lodging. I wrote about my driving experience here.

Your description of driving there was hilarious! I think we'll stick to the bus. :)

Thank you both for your responses. I'd love to hear from others who have been in the off-season as well.

Just was there in early March this year. Positano buttoned up pretty tight. In Amalfi same time in 2015, a few things open. On the other side, Sorrento open for business, not so many hotels open at the marina but most everything was open near Piazza Tasso. When weather's cold & rainy it's not fun because it can blast you on the peninsula but for the most part we loved being around there with few tourists. The scenery is fantastic 12 months a year. You just have to learn to zig & zag depending on the weather and what's open or not. Make the SITA bus schedule your friend.

And Salerno, a small city, is great as well. Based out of there for five nights in March 2015. The bus from Salerno to Amalfi-town takes about an hour and is very scenic.

Enjoy your planning!
